I was there when you were drawing on your eyebrows

And I was watching when you were painting on your smile

I said, “wouldn't you like your life to be like a little lighter than night, and a little to the left of center…?”

She said, “leave me alone! I prefer the night and the right and I'll see you in September…”

I was there when you were kneeling in your nylons

And I'll be watching as you hobble in your heels

I said, “wouldn't you like your life to be like a little sweeter than meat, like the little girl I remember?”

She said, “leave me alone! And couldn't you try to be less of a lie…?  I'll see you in September…”
